Latvian troops to participate in Northern Strike exercises in USA
Throughout 27 July – 14 August, more than 70 troops of Latvian Armed Forces will be taking part in Northern Strike 2017 joint land and air exercises organized by Michigan National Guard in USA.
Exercises will be taking place in USA – Grayling and Alpena landfills in Michigan, as reported by Latvian Defence Ministry.
Latvia will be represented by air and fire support group, as well as National Guard 4th Infantry Brigade, which will be integrated into Denmark’s participating unit, the ministry notes.
According to information from the ministry, more than 5,000 American and allied troops will be taking part. «Exercises will allow troops to train under conditions of a large-scale operation, involving land and air elements.»
The ministry emphasizes that air support controllers trained in Latvia are highly professional. And this is largely thanks to assistance from Michigan National Guard. Air support specialists coordinate and directly manage close-range air support and other kinds of air support operations.
