RB Rail: there is a great deal of interest for Rail Baltica in Finland
During a meeting with Finnish politicians and business representatives, we felt a great deal of interest from them in favour of joining Rail Baltica project, RB Rail representatives say. It should be added that, on Thursday, 8 November, RB Rail representatives – Baiba Rubesa, RB Rail CEO and chairperson, and Aivar Jaeski, the project’s coordinator in Estonia and Finland, met with Finnish Transport and Communication Minister Anne Berner, Helsinki – Uusimaa Regional Council Mayor Ossi Savolainen and Finnish business industry representatives to discuss opportunities offered by Rail Baltica and mutual project benefits.
Rubesa emphasized Finland’s strategic role for the project and operations. Finnish business interests in Rail Baltica project were also discussed during the meeting. At the same time, she also mentioned the importance of looking into Finland’s logistical community’s expectations for Rail Baltica’s infrastructure to come up with appropriate infrastructure to meet client’s interests. It is also worth mentioning that Berner has confirmed that Rail Baltica is expected to provide great opportunities for Finnish cargo transports. At the same time, attention was provided to other associated projects – Arctic railway and FinEst connection. Rubesa asked the minister to secure political support for Rail Baltica’s funding within European Union-level finance scheme after 2014-2020 funding period.
During her visit, Rubesa spoke with Finnish business community and discussed with its members different opportunities for creating a new economic corridor in the North-East region. She presented Rail Baltica project development and detailed the benefits and advantages over sea and traditional lack cargo transports.
«Rail Baltica can be considered the most sustainable cargo transportation method – it has the best indexes for road traffic safety, sound pollution and reduction of traffic congestion, as well as wild animal protection. It also has the lowest carbon dioxide emissions. Also Rail Baltica will secure cargo consolidation, as well as ensure security and punctuality,» said Rubesa.
Members of the Finnish business community said during the meeting that Rail Baltica will provide tangible socio-economic benefits and opportunities for the entire region.
