RB Rail: there is a great deal of in­ter­est for Rail Baltica in Fin­land

Dur­ing a meet­ing with Fin­nish politi­cians and busi­ness rep­re­sen­ta­tives, we felt a great deal of in­ter­est from them in favour of join­ing Rail Baltica project, RB Rail rep­re­sen­ta­tives say. It should be added that, on Thurs­day, 8 Novem­ber, RB Rail rep­re­sen­ta­tives – Baiba Rubesa, RB Rail CEO and chair­per­son, and Ai­var Jaeski, the project’s co­or­di­na­tor in Es­to­nia and Fin­land, met with Fin­nish Trans­port and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Min­is­ter Anne Berner, Helsinki – Uusi­maa Re­gional Coun­cil Mayor Ossi Savolainen and Fin­nish busi­ness in­dus­try rep­re­sen­ta­tives to dis­cuss op­por­tu­ni­ties of­fered by Rail Baltica and mu­tual project ben­e­fits.

Rubesa em­pha­sized Fin­land’s strate­gic role for the project and op­er­a­tions. Fin­nish busi­ness in­ter­ests in Rail Baltica project were also dis­cussed dur­ing the meet­ing. At the same time, she also men­tioned the im­por­tance of look­ing into Fin­land’s lo­gis­ti­cal com­mu­nity’s ex­pec­ta­tions for Rail Baltica’s in­fra­struc­ture to come up with ap­pro­pri­ate in­fra­struc­ture to meet client’s in­ter­ests. It is also worth men­tion­ing that Berner has con­firmed that Rail Baltica is ex­pected to pro­vide great op­por­tu­ni­ties for Fin­nish cargo trans­ports. At the same time, at­ten­tion was pro­vided to other associated projects – Arc­tic rail­way and FinEst con­nec­tion. Rubesa asked the min­is­ter to se­cure po­lit­i­cal sup­port for Rail Baltica’s fund­ing within Euro­pean Union-level fi­nance scheme af­ter 2014-2020 fund­ing pe­riod.

Dur­ing her visit, Rubesa spoke with Fin­nish busi­ness com­mu­nity and dis­cussed with its mem­bers dif­fer­ent op­por­tu­ni­ties for cre­at­ing a new eco­nomic cor­ri­dor in the North-East re­gion. She pre­sented Rail Baltica project de­vel­op­ment and de­tailed the ben­e­fits and ad­van­tages over sea and tra­di­tional lack cargo trans­ports.

«Rail Baltica can be con­sid­ered the most sus­tain­able cargo trans­porta­tion method – it has the best in­dexes for road traf­fic safety, sound pol­lu­tion and re­duc­tion of traf­fic con­ges­tion, as well as wild an­i­mal pro­tec­tion. It also has the low­est car­bon diox­ide emis­sions. Also Rail Baltica will se­cure cargo con­sol­i­da­tion, as well as en­sure se­cu­rity and punc­tu­al­ity,» said Rubesa.

Mem­bers of the Fin­nish busi­ness com­mu­nity said dur­ing the meet­ing that Rail Baltica will pro­vide tan­gi­ble so­cio-eco­nomic ben­e­fits and op­por­tu­ni­ties for the en­tire re­gion.
