Estonia to prevent damage to its image for 800 000 euros
From 60 000 to 800 000 euros, such is the planned increase of Estonia government’s funding on strategic communication aimed at monitoring foreign media reports on the Baltic country and on containing possible damage of the Estonian image.
Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports on Wednesday, January 10, that in the country’s government, there is a strategic communication department, where team of eight specialists will fulfil the duties of monitoring the reporting on Estonia in media abroad. The other objective will be to to try to prevent and contain fake news and similar press-based attacks on the country.
ERR reported citing Estonian newspaper Postimees that Martin Jaško, who has been tasked with carrying out changes in the department, has noted that the department plans to be focusing less on reaction than before and move the focus prevention and its own media campaigns.
