Lithuania behind Latvia, Estonia on Eu regions index
Lithuania is behind Latvia and Estonia on the latest competitiveness index of European Union (EU) regions, while in comparison to other similar EU regions, the country’s ratings are worse in terms of business development, health and infrastructure. According to the EU Regional Competitiveness Index published by the European Commission on Tuesday, Lithuania, as a region, scored 34.2 points out of 100 and ranked 194th among 263 regions. In this year’s index, Latvia secured 35.1 points and ranked 191st, and Estonia got 53.9 points and was 141st. On the EU level, regions got an average of 55 points. As compared with 15 other regions with a similar gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, Lithuania ranks the worst in terms of business development (243rd), health (259th) and infrastructure (227th). Meanwhile, Lithuania came in relatively high in the category of higher education and lifelong learning (79th).
