Ju­soor Boot­camp Grad­u­ates 10 Promis­ing Star­tups from Syria Avat­ech Ac­cel­er­ates 10 New Star­tups in Iran

10 Syr­ian star­tups grad­u­ated from the first Entrepreneurship Boot­camp held in the Beirut Dig­i­tal Dis­trict by the Ju­soor com­mu­nity, in part­ner­ship with Oa­sis500, and spon­sored by the Lon­don­based As­fari foun­da­tion.the Boot­camp com­prised 3 weeks of in­ten­sive ses­sions by Oa­sis500 train­ers, de­signed to help as­pir­ing en­trepreneurs de­velop their ideas and startup ex­pe­ri­ences. Ac­cord­ing to Ra­nia Suc­car, co-founder and Board Mem­ber at Ju­soor, an es­sen­tial part of the pro­gram was shar­ing the ex­pe­ri­ences of suc­cess­ful pi­o­neer­ing Syr­ian en­trepreneurs. These in­spir­ing mod­els in­cluded: Ad­nan Tara­bishy, the CEO at Pro­fes­sional De­vel­op­ment In­sti­tute and co-founder of Sec­ond Step; Ma­jid Lababidi, co-founder and Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor at Fi Tech­nolo­gies; and Lo­jain Jibawi, founder of the Votek Ara­bic speech recog­ni­tion en­gine. In par­al­lel, par­tic­i­pants were in­tro­duced to a broad range of re­sources such as the Zoomal crowd­fund­ing plat­form and the Altcity co-work­ing space. Swell Mar­ket­ing So­lu­tions, a Syr­ian startup in Beirut served as both an ex­am­ple of a suc­cess­ful startup, and a po­ten­tial part­ner for emerg­ing en­trepreneurs. The 10 en­trepreneurs were se­lected based on their pitch dur­ing the Entrepreneurship Com­pe­ti­tion, part of the Ju­soor Entrepreneurship Pro­gram. Their ideas ranged from in­no­va­tive ed­u­ca­tional plat­forms, trans­porta­tion so­lu­tions, and healthcare mo­bile ap­pli­ca­tions to up­cy­cled build­ing ma­te­ri­als and de­sign items. Avat­ech has se­lected 10 new star­tups for its sec­ond cy­cle. The pro­gram will stretch over 4 months and will of­fer the star­tups men­tor­ship, a work­ing space, and $8,000 in seed fund­ing in ex­change for up to 15% eq­uity. Here is the run­down on the 10 new star­tups: Di­mana (a cloud-based man­age­ment so­lu­tion for real es­tate agen­cies); Smart­been (a smart cli­mate con­trol so­lu­tion for green­houses); Bit­vam (a P2P plat­form for friends and rel­a­tives to bor­row money from each other); Nikprint (an online print and de­sign plat­form with free de­liv­ery); Sportup (a sports plat­form with a di­rec­tory, fit­ness blog, and mer­chant space); Cor­tado (an in­te­grated café man­age­ment so­lu­tion with loy­alty pro­gram); Rayan Afzar Kabir (a game stu­dio); Par­vaneh (an online mar­ket­place for ar­ti­sans to sell their crafts and con­nect); Ran­gi­tar (an online mar­ket­place for pho­tog­ra­phy ser­vices); and Nam­lik (a pub­lisher of au­dio con­tent). Last May Avat­ech’s first batch of 10 star­tups, achieved im­pres­sive re­sults, with 6 of them rais­ing $1.3 mil­lion from in­sti­tu­tional and an­gel in­vestors.
