MENA Star­tups Shine at Seed­stars World

Seed­stars Sum­mit was held last April in Lau­sanne, Switzer­land, com­bin­ing pan­els and work­shops about the lat­est tech­no­log­i­cal ad­vance­ments from emerg­ing mar­kets, and a com­pe­ti­tion for in­ter­na­tional star­tups. The high­light of the sum­mit was the fi­nal re­sults of the world­wide startup com­pe­ti­tion giv­ing away $1,000,000 in eq­uity in­vest­ment to the win­ning star­tups. 12 star­tups were se­lected to com­pete and pitch on the main stage in front of par­tic­i­pants and a jury panel. The Seed­stars World Global Win­ner of the $500,000 in­vest­ment prize was Acud­een Tech­nolo­gies, from the Philip­pines, an in­no­va­tive so­lu­tion that turns SME in­voices into cash through dis­count­ing of their re­ceiv­ables. Sev­eral other star­tups re­ceived spe­cial prizes, in­clud­ing 2 re­gional ones: Asafeer Ed­u­ca­tion Tech­nolo­gies from UAE, an elec­tronic sta­tis­tics tool, was awarded the TRECC Trans­form­ing Ed­u­ca­tion Prize, a grant of USD 50,000, pre­sented by TRECC. Mind Rock­ets from Jor­dan, an as­sis­tive technology for the deaf, won the Pub­lic Vote, pre­sented by SPECO, the Of­fice for Eco­nomic Af­fairs of the State of Vaud in Switzer­land. More­over, out of the 12 fi­nal­ists star­tups that were se­lected, 3 of them are from the MENA re­gion: Seg­men­tify from Turkey, Mind Rock­ets from Jor­dan, and Raye7 from Egypt.
