The cor­po­rate in­vestor trend is not new to the MENA in­vest­ment scene, how­ever, the trend truly started pick­ing up in 2012. Com­pa­nies across sec­tors are launch­ing in­vest­ment ini­tia­tives, ei­ther through stand­alone funds or op­por­tunis­tic in­vest­ments. To­day, cor­po­rate in­vestors rep­re­sent 18% of the sur­veyed in­vestors. The main bulk of new cor­po­rate in­vestors are lo­cated in the UAE and Le­banon. In Le­banon the lat­est cor­po­rate in­vestors in­clude banks (Al­mawarid Bank and So­ciété Générale de Banque au Liban - SGBL); this was en­cour­aged (again) by Cir­cu­lar 331, which sup­ports in­vest­ments by banks not only into VC funds but also into star­tups di­rectly The UAE’S co­po­rate in­vestors are com­pa­nies across broad sec­tors, such as du, Souq.com, Alab­bar En­ter­prises, and DHX (Dubai Hold­ing).
