Perrin x Zaha Hadid is a capsule collection of clutches that captures the late architect’s singular vision and reiterates her ability to build bridges across design worlds.
The story of this bag began in 2015 when, during an interview, Zaha Hadid name checked a clutch by an old, but little-known, Parisian leather goods company as one of her all-time favourite gifts. Upon reading this article, which appeared in the Financial Times, the creative director of the family-owned business immediately got in touch with Hadid’s architecture firm, ZHA. “I have always been a fan of Zaha’s and I was so moved by the compliment. So I decided to reach out to her and see if a collaboration was possible,” says Sally Perrin. A deal was struck and they started their preliminary brainstorming sessions together when, tragically and quite unexpectedly, Hadid’s life was cut short by a heart attack. Nevertheless, thanks to the efforts of the team at ZHA, a collection of nine limited edition clutches bearing the late great starchitect’s name has managed to see the light of day, and they’re available via the e-commerce section of Perrin’s website. To us at least, the calfskin bags are quintessential pieces of wearable art. They’re also great conversation starters, for they’re quite unlike anything else out there. Available in five colours with a choice of three different stainless steel handclasps that swoop, wrap and loop in various metallic or block colour finishes, they won’t be around long however, as they’re already selling out fast.
