DOME LIFTED INTO PLACE AT LOU­VRE ABU DHABI

The fi­nal touch­down has oc­curred as the huge dome was put in place at the Lou­vre Abu Dhabi de­vel­op­ment. His Ex­cel­lency Ali Ma­jed Al Man­soori and the chair­man of the board of the Tourism De­vel­op­ment & In­vest­ment Com­pany (TDIC), as well as other board mem­bers, TDIC se­nior man­age­ment and se­nior man­age­ment of the main con­trac­tors, at­tended the event. The dome it­self weighs 7,000 tonnes and was built over a pe­riod of 10 months. It now sits on top of the mu­seum’s four main piers, af­ter be­ing lifted from its tem­po­rary tow­ers and then be­ing low­ered 38cm down to its fi­nal po­si­tion above the mu­seum.

The lift that took place is the first of its kind in the world of con­struc­tion for a per­ma­nent struc­ture of this size.
