MAYA AL-AMIN: ON GOING GREEN
“MA The Difference is in The Details,” the brand name of the Design & Execution Division at REVIEW S.A.R.L, with more than 40 years of experience in the real estate and design fields, specialises in custom high-end residential and commercial designs and execution. Nayla Kurd meets the creative ingénue at its helm, Lebanese interior designer Maya Al-Amin.
Having studied interior design at LAU, and worked for luxury design firms for a couple of years before launching her own business, Maya Al-Amin was always inspired by the mix of old and new styles. “My job is to tell a story, sometimes we encounter similar stories, but the beauty is that the ending is always changing.”
“Throughout the years, we have managed to build a powerful and reliable reputation in all fields related to our scope of work, and this was due to our intensive knowledge of the market, good relationship with our customers, and our professional team. We are a full-service interior design and
execution firm, working on residential and commercial projects. Our ultimate goal is to create a beautiful, well-designed space that reflects the personality of the owner. We believe that decoration is about creating quality and beauty in life, where our client’s taste is the most elemental factor in any project we undertake, no matter how extravagant their ideas, because interior decoration should reflect the client’s personality and lifestyle along with the designer’s signature prints and style.”
But, in our contemporary world of mass production, one can often overlook the importance of designing in a green and sustainable way. “Designing in symbiosis with nature and the needs of future generations is the only way forward for mankind,” Al-Amin says. She believes that creating sustainable interior environments is the main pillar to build upon for future generations. She believes that with creativity, the ingenious ability to use the materials around us, and skilful, sensitive design one can achieve significant results. “Interior environments are the places that meet human needs,” she goes on to say. It is the instinctive application of individuals’ needs through design into our environment; whether by using agriboard panels (carbon negative panels made out of wheat and straw), soy and water based inks, eco-friendly paint, latex and wool fabrics in furniture production or energy efficient product in lighting fixtures.
In designing the interiors of tomorrow, Al-Amin advocates the creation of ‘greener interiors’ that operate at half the energy and resource requirements of a conventional home, yet provide beautiful and contemporary living spaces. “These spaces should live and breathe like our planets,” Al-Amin says. “Working on projects that have negative effects on the environment is the main goal of our firm. We have a strong background in healthy materials, finishes and furnishings that make efficient use of resources,” she adds.
Human sustainability brings many opportunities for designers to bring innovative products to the masses. Whether these innovative green home ware products exists on a large scale or a smaller individual, made-to-measure basis, they represent humankind’s ingenuity to innovate the fabric of mankind explains AL-Amin.
