By­b­los arche­ol­ogy re­vived

On 18 Novem­ber, Amer­i­can Am­bas­sador David Hale took part in the open­ing of the Main Tower of the Citadel at By­b­los’ arche­o­log­i­cal site, ren­o­vated thanks to a USD 93,895 grant from the U.S. Depart­ment of State’s Am­bas­sadors Fund for Cul­tural Preser­va­tion (AFCP). “The [AFCP] em­braced this project in By­b­los be­cause of our be­lief in the im­por­tance of pre­serv­ing, re­mem­ber­ing, and learn­ing from our shared his­tory,” said Hale at the in­au­gu­ra­tion. “To­day we re­mem­ber the an­cient past of Le­banon. We also look to Le­banon’s rich and di­verse cul­ture and to­ward a pros­per­ous fu­ture for its ex­tra­or­di­nary peo­ple.”
