#e 1930s saw an increased interest in the allure of the American Wild West, and radio programs and !lms were full of images of real and pretend cowboys wearing denim throughout their adventures. Men began to buy shirts and jeans with an authentic Western feel that would help them channel their inner John Wayne. In the 1950s, James Dean’s iconic !lm Rebel without a Cause inspired middleclass men to rebel and try out their own bad-boy look.
