#e 1930s saw an in­creased in­ter­est in the al­lure of the Amer­i­can Wild West, and ra­dio pro­grams and !lms were full of im­ages of real and pre­tend cowboys wear­ing denim through­out their ad­ven­tures. Men be­gan to buy shirts and jeans with an au­then­tic Western feel that would help them chan­nel their in­ner John Wayne. In the 1950s, James Dean’s iconic !lm Rebel with­out a Cause inspired mid­dle­class men to rebel and try out their own bad-boy look.
