JEANS GET DISTRESSED
MID-1980S – EARLY 1990S
In previous decades, fashion jeans were ironed and even starched to maintain their crisp and new appearance. In the 1980s, however, distressed, torn and worn-in denim was all the rage. Designers began to wash denim with special irritants to achieve a used look, and would customize the pair with painting and small tears for exorbitant fees. #e heavy metal and hard rock music movements of the time popularized more extreme versions of the style.
