A re­cent study per­formed on older Span­ish adults by JAMA In­ter­nal Medicine in­di­cated a strong link be­tween Mediter­ranean di­etary habits and im­proved cog­ni­tive func­tions, thanks to the amounts of ex­tra vir­gin olive oil and mixed nuts it in­cor­po­rates. The re­search even re­vealed the diet’s abil­ity to re­duce the risk of de­men­tia by en­abling the body to detox­ify it­self from ox­ida­tive stress.
