New Beginnings

U Magazine - - INTERVIEW -

Actress, philanthropist and new mommy, Eva Mendes, talks to us about her latest collaboration with Estée Lauder, motherhood and her idea of beauty.

Estée Lauder’s latest collection, New Dimension Transformative Collection, empowers women to transform and define their appearance in a completely new way. Eva Mendes is the face of this new collection. We sit down with the sultry screen siren as she explains why her collaboration with the beauty empire is a match made in cosmetic heaven. Why did you want to work with Estée Lauder? This is really a fantasy collaboration. It’s a dream come true to be part of the Estée Lauder family and to be part of such an iconic brand. When I was younger, Estée Lauder was the epitome of beauty, and I grew up admiring the brand’s iconic images. It was only later in life when I realized that Estée Lauder is a brand for women, founded by a woman and run by women. I was really, really attracted to that. I’m from a household of women and was raised by a single mother and two amazing sisters. I’ve had the same girlfriends since I was 12, and I’ve made many since. I have a strong female support system around me. We all love and support each other. So it’s very important for me to be part of a company that really celebrates and empowers women. What was your first Estée Lauder product? I remember my first product so clearly – it was Estée Lauder’s Knowing fragrance. I grew up right by Glendale Galleria in Los Angeles, and I loved the women who spritzed perfume at the makeup counters. When I was in 7th grade, I went to an Estée counter and the woman asked if I would like a sample – she gave me Knowing. I adored it and have been wearing it ever since because, in my mind, it smells exactly like a woman should smell. My mother still gives it to me every year for Christmas.
