Stars to rock de­but awards cer­e­mony

ALL roads will lead to the first ever Ul­ti­mate Mu­sic Awards set to take place at Thaba-bo­siu Cul­tural Vil­lage on Satur­day.

The awards cer­e­mony, which will hence­forth be held on an an­nual ba­sis, is meant to ap­pre­ci­ate the ef­forts of lo­cal mu­si­cians de­spite the odds staked against them and lift their spir­its.

The red car­pet event is seg­mented into 11 cat­e­gories namely; Best Kwaito Al­bum, Best Gospel, Best Com­pi­la­tion, Best RNB, Best Jazz, Best Dance, Best Hip Hop, Best Mu­sic Video, Best New­comer, Best Pro­ducer and Song of the year cat­e­gories.

Since the an­nounce­ment of the awards cer­e­mony ear­lier this year, many lo­cal artists made their way to the Ul­ti­mate stu­dios to reg­is­ter. How­ever, the list had to be cut down to 61 fi­nal­ists from which only 11 will walk away M5 000 richer with other prizes in store for nom­i­nees.

The in­au­gu­ral awards cer­e­mony will fea­ture a num­ber of South African en­ter­tain­ment heavy­weights such as Dur­ban’s DJ Tira and Fish­er­man, Dr Malinga, Joe Nina, Bonolo along­side Tšepo Tšola. Lo­cal Afro-jazz star Bhu­daza and Le­sotho-born songstress Maleh are also billed in the lineup meant to cater for dif­fer­ent age groups and so­cial classes.

Dr Malinga, who is set to make his de­but ap­pear­ance in Le­sotho, will be “kick­ing” fans away with his unique and popular dance moves. The Kung Fu styles he in­cor­po­rates in his dance rou­tine as well as colour­ful suits made him have en­deared him to fans who mar­vel at the en­ergy and pres­ence he brings to the stage.

He shot to fame in 2011 with his hit sin­gle Jika be­fore be­ing fea­tured on club an­them Via Or­lando’s remix.

Apart from his dance moves, Dr Malinga’s deep voice has also made him a house­hold name.

En­ter­tain­ment out­fit Afro­tain­ment’s founder, DJ Tira, has been to Le­sotho a num­ber of times. This time around, he will be bring­ing his “part­ner in crime”, deejay and pro­ducer, Fish­er­man, who will be mak­ing his de­but per­for­mance in Le­sotho.
