THE Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) will host 48 Public Relations students from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) next year under an internship programme aimed at equipping the learners with workplace experience.

The learners visited the LNDC offices on Monday this week to learn more about the organisation, which is wholly owned by the government and mandated with promoting Lesotho as an attractive investment location for both foreign and indigenous entrepreneurs.

LUCT has a programme called “Indusity” — a word coined from industry and university — under which students are exposed to a workplace and corporate environment and culture.

LNDC Head of Planning, Research and Information Management, Motebang Mokoaleli, welcomed the students to the organisation’s head office in Maseru and explained the relationship between the corporation and the university, and what the internship seeks to achieve.

“I understand you will be on an internship programme in 2015, which will allow you to do practicals of the theoretical work you have learned at the university. The mandate of the Corporation is to initiate, promote and facilitate the development of manufacturing and processing industries, mining and com- merce in a manner calculated to raise the level of income and employment in Lesotho,” Mr Mokoaleli said.

“LNDC is the main parastatal of the Government of Lesotho charged with the implementation of the country’s industrial development policies. We have to have a public relations officer (PRO) who influences public opinion and also provides the organisation’s information to the public.

“We are an institution that delivers better services to Basotho in order to become a better country and hope you will learn to do so and deliver the best in the corporate world.”

Liepollo Makaba, who spoke on behalf of the students, said the internship programme would be immensely beneficial to their budding careers.

“We believe that the programme will be beneficial for our careers and hope to gain more information that will be useful in the corporate world,” Ms Makaba said.

“We really appreciate the opportunity that LNDC has offered us. Even though it’s our first day here it feels like our second home already.”
