Thotanyana lands top Lefa post
LESOTHO Football Association (Lefa) secretary general, Mokhosi Mohapi, this week confirmed the appointment of Lehlohonolo thotanyana as technical Director (td).
Mohapi told the Lesotho Times that thotanyana would take over from Seephephe Matete and assume the post next month.
“the deal has been signed and Ntate thotanyana is now our new technical Director. He is expected to start in his new role in January 2015,” Mohapi said.
“He was the best candidate for the position and we are happy to have him and the appointment has since been endorsed by Fifa (Federation of International Football Associations).”
thotanyana, who has coached Premiership giants Lioli and Bantu, holds Union of european Football Associations (Uefa) B and Confederation of African Football (Caf) B coaching badges.
He was part of the coaching staff of Lesotho’s national-under 20 team, which qualified for the African Youth Championship for the first time in 2005.
thotanyana was also assistant nt to national team coach Leslie Notši, otši, while the two recently parted ways with South African First Divisionsion side, garankuwa United, following wing a string of poor results.
the veteran coach, led Lioli li to the 2012/13 league title and comommands a lot of respect in the localcal football fraternity.
“We believe that there is a lot that he can bring to help us improve going forward as we would want to change a lot of things,” said Mohapi.
“the long-term plan with the new td is to also improve our youth structures and women football and also have district leagues.
“there is need to make sure we improve in different departments of our game and the technical director will be very crucial in helping achieve this, especially as far as our national teams are concerned.”
Mohapi further said a lot of plan- ning was needed in the New Year to rectify “some mistakes” which impeded progress in the past.
According to Mohapi, Matete is also set to be handed a fulltime contract as national team coach.
“We will make a public announcement of the appointment in January,” Mohapi said.
