Beauty pageant for charity
FOUR beauty queens have collaborated to organise a pageant meant to raise funds to alleviate the plight of destitute children.
The Miss Back to School contest, which will be held on Saturday at MCC Hall in Khubetsoana, is being organised by Miss Crown Royale and Miss Heritage Second Princess Thotoane Motlomelo, Miss Crown Royale Second Princess Matšeliso Mohale, Miss Maseru Second Princess Nyakallo Motaung and Miss Centre of Accounting Studies Nthabeleng Mokotjo.
According to Motlomelo, much as the pageant is meant to promote the local modelling industry, the main intention is to assist vulnerable children.
“I live in a community where most children come from poor families with some going to school wearing tattered uniforms or even barefoot,” said Motlomelo.
“I felt compelled to do something about and approached my colleagues so that we can give a helping hand.”
The 21-year-old Motlomelo, who was born and bred in Motse Mocha, said her goal is to put a smile on the children’s faces.
“Since the time for schools to reopen is drawing closer, we intend to give vulnerable children with new uniforms and stationery so they look as presentable at school as the other children.”
The quartet has already secured sponsorship from such local businesses as Fashion World, which will donate school uniforms, and Maseru City Council which provided the venue. Motlomelo called on all who can assist to give a helping hand, adding that “blessed is the hand that gives than the one that receives”.ceives”.
“As beauty queens, s, it is our duty to engage in social responsibility sponsibility campaigns and this initiative ative is one such,” she said.
“All things being equal,qual, we intend to have many more pageantsgeants of this nature in the near future.ure.
“This is also to show how children that beauty pageants are not just about cat walking butut encouraging people to get educated and help those in need.”ed.”
Providing entertainrtainment at the pageant eant will be Krytonites,es, Dancemore Club ub and Jason Lithoko on dance, poet Nyakallo as well as Hip Hop artist Bahale.
