Beauty pageant for char­ity

FOUR beauty queens have col­lab­o­rated to or­gan­ise a pageant meant to raise funds to al­le­vi­ate the plight of des­ti­tute chil­dren.

The Miss Back to School con­test, which will be held on Satur­day at MCC Hall in Khu­bet­soana, is be­ing or­gan­ised by Miss Crown Royale and Miss Her­itage Sec­ond Princess Tho­toane Mot­lomelo, Miss Crown Royale Sec­ond Princess Matšeliso Mo­hale, Miss Maseru Sec­ond Princess Nyakallo Mo­taung and Miss Cen­tre of Ac­count­ing Stud­ies Ntha­be­leng Mokotjo.

Ac­cord­ing to Mot­lomelo, much as the pageant is meant to pro­mote the lo­cal mod­el­ling in­dus­try, the main in­ten­tion is to as­sist vul­ner­a­ble chil­dren.

“I live in a com­mu­nity where most chil­dren come from poor fam­i­lies with some go­ing to school wear­ing tat­tered uni­forms or even bare­foot,” said Mot­lomelo.

“I felt com­pelled to do some­thing about and ap­proached my col­leagues so that we can give a help­ing hand.”

The 21-year-old Mot­lomelo, who was born and bred in Motse Mocha, said her goal is to put a smile on the chil­dren’s faces.

“Since the time for schools to re­open is draw­ing closer, we in­tend to give vul­ner­a­ble chil­dren with new uni­forms and sta­tionery so they look as pre­sentable at school as the other chil­dren.”

The quar­tet has al­ready se­cured spon­sor­ship from such lo­cal busi­nesses as Fash­ion World, which will do­nate school uni­forms, and Maseru City Coun­cil which pro­vided the venue. Mot­lomelo called on all who can as­sist to give a help­ing hand, adding that “blessed is the hand that gives than the one that re­ceives”.ceives”.

“As beauty queens, s, it is our duty to en­gage in so­cial re­spon­si­bil­ity spon­si­bil­ity cam­paigns and this ini­tia­tive ative is one such,” she said.

“All things be­ing equal,qual, we in­tend to have many more pageants­geants of this na­ture in the near fu­ture.ure.

“This is also to show how chil­dren that beauty pageants are not just about cat walk­ing bu­tut en­cour­ag­ing peo­ple to get ed­u­cated and help those in need.”ed.”

Pro­vid­ing en­ter­tain­r­tain­ment at the pageant eant will be Kry­tonites,es, Dance­more Club ub and Ja­son Lithoko on dance, poet Nyakallo as well as Hip Hop artist Ba­hale.
