DJ Christos to headline Miss NUL pageant
SOUTH African legendary DJ and renowned house producer, DJ Christos, is set to once again light up Lesotho at the Miss NUL (National University of Lesotho) pageant in Roma this Saturday.
The veteran disc spinner, who is popular for blending Deep House tracks and releasing club-bangers, will perform at the annual pageant which will be held at the university’s Netherlands Hall.
Christos is regarded as SA’S “Godfather of House”, being also one of the founders of the Kalawa label and Katsaitis Music which churned out some of the country’s most ground-breaking artists, including Boom Shaka, Lebo Mathosa, Shana, Daw and Black Coffee.
His deejaying prowess has been showcased on multiple mix CD’S, including deep DJ compilations such as Club Classics, Wicked Sounds, Magic Rhythms and Real Tone Cuts.
The weekend performance will not be the first for DJ Christos, who has rocked the Mountain Kingdom on several occasions.
During one of his visits, the affable entertainer granted the Weekender an exclusive interview in which he said Lesotho was like a second home to him because of the people’s passion for and appreciation of House music.
His most recent visit was in December last year in which he promised to perform material to be featured in his upcoming album, Deep from the Motherland Vol. 2.
According to one of the pageant’s organisers, Mathabo Rajane, bringing DJ Christos is part of their strategy to raise the profile of Miss NUL.
Rajane, who was last year’s Miss NUL second princess, described booking the SA muso as a “great opportunity as he is one of the best in the world”.
“There has never been any foreign artist performing at Miss NUL pageant, but this time we have made things different by bringing DJ Christos who is arguably the best in Africa when it comes to Deep House and whom the majority of the youth of this country cannot get enough of,” said Rajane.
“The intention is to take the pageant to a top class level as we will also be adopting a red-carpet theme on Saturday.”
She also revealed that more contestants will be strutting their stuff in this year’s edition.
“It will be the first time that we have 15 contestants, which is a greater number compared to previous editions,” Rajane said.
“Apart from that, beautiful ladies contesting for the Miss NUL crown have the potential to win the Miss Intervarsity 2015 crown later on this year.
DJ Christos will be sharing the stage with such local acts as Jiji F and Skebz D, among others.
DJ Christos’ most recent performance in Lesotho was in December last year.
