Fun-filled event for Moshoeshoe’s Day
APPAREL company Basutoland Ink, in collaboration with premier lifestyle brand Blankets and Bling, will commemorate Moshoeshoe’s Day with a fun-filled event at Bhaduza Park, Maseru Mall next Wednesday.
Dubbed “Monyaka Ha Moshoeshoe”, the event will coincide with 11 March, the day set aside to celebrate the life and exploits of Morena Moshoeshoe who founded the Basotho nation.
Speaking on behalf of the event’s organisers, Tlali “Mr Maps” Mapetla of Emotiv PR said they came up with the concept to add their unique flair to Moshoeshoe’s Day commemorations which will be held around the country.
“The aim of the event is to celebrate the life of King Moshoeshoe, making it resonate among the youth through fashion, food and good company,” said Mapetla this week.
“To give the show more appeal, attendees will be expected to wear a mixture of traditional garb with modern clothes.”
He said since the event’s inception in 2010, it had been held in remote areas.
“But this time around we have decided to host it at Bhaduza Family Park as the focus will be on accommodating the whole family,” Mapetla said, adding that parents can also bring their children as there is an amusement park.
He said the theme for the event will be “For King and Country”, which will also pay tribute to the patriotism of Basotho in supporting the monarchy.
Mapetla also said the bestdressed people would win Basutoland clothing hampers, adding that an array of traditional and modern foods will also be available.
In keeping with the home-grown thrust of the event, which will be hosted by actor, comedian and voice artist Tseko Monaheng, only local artists will perform.
The likes of L-tore, Honye, Boshoa Botšoeroe, Da Starr and Grown Folk DJS have been lined up to entertain the crowd.
“The music will range from the traditional Famo genre to Kwaito, Deep House, old school jams as well as Hip Hop music,” he said.
It will run from noon till 7pm, with an after party thereafter at Bar One which is also at Bhaduza Park.
L-tore will be among the performers at the Moshoeshoe’s Day commemorations.
