Matter of Fact
THE Lesotho Times edition 9 April 2015 published a story headlined “Govt needs rethink on abortion laws” which stated that a panel discussion held at the National University of Lesotho urged government to enact stringent laws penalising illegal abortions. The story also claimed that South Africa did not allow abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
However, we have since discovered that there was no such resolution made in relation to the top- ic. It has also come to light that in South Africa, abortion is allowed on demand by an expecting mother and there are no conditions attached except that a nurse be available to perform the abortion.
In the story, the names of Seeiso Koali and Moses Owori were wrongly spelt as Messrs Sekoati and Oweri, respectively. The Lesotho Times unreservedly apologises to the panel and all stakeholders involved for the damage the story caused. — Editor.
