Fashion show to launch clothing label

Lesotho Times - - Weekender - Mohalenyane Phakela

A NEW clothing line, Dazzle Collection, is set to be burst onto the local fashion scene this Saturday, with the proprietors promising unique designs to suit various tastes.

Dubbed, Your Autumn Soul, the launch ceremony will be held at Lesotho Sun in Maseru with models showcasing the new label’s wares on the catwalk.

According to the clothing line’s owners, Creative Director Mapula Mofokeng-lebona and Designer Delma Tshabalala, the clothing line will offer unique but practical clothing.

“It is inspired by Victoria Beckam’s simple but elegant designs and Coco Chanel’s timeless designs of the 1900s,” said MofokengLebona.

“Dazzle Collection will offer simple yet attractive clothing produced in Lesotho although the fabric is imported. We will also be launching our online store together with the boutique to fully serve our target market.”

The fashion show will also feature the “African Fashion International” designs of South African designer Scalo who has previously showcased his designs at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

“We saw a loophole in Lesotho’s clothing industry as the trending clothes are mostly from department stores resulting in many people wearing similar outfits since those shops produce in bulk,” she added.

“We want to do away with the monotony of wearing the same outfits as our label will only produce a maximum of four items per design and in different sizes, which will make them exclusive.

“As a woman, the way you present yourself matters as it has an impact on your selfconfidence and the way people perceive you.”

She also noted that fashion does not have to be complicated or sophisticated for one to look good, but has to be in tandem with the personality of the wearer.

The road to the launch ceremony has been far from plain sailing for the Johannesburgborn duo which is now based in Maseru. According to Mofokeng-lebona, who is married to a Mosotho man, their journey started four years ago and has been filled with a lot of challenges.

“We encountered financial hiccups like any budding business and even failed to meet our targets, but we never despaired as we are very passionate about fashion and we were motivated by the fact that we are doing what we love,” she said.

“We looked at our challenges, not as problems, but as a learning curve. We are looking forward to collaborating with established international designers,” chipped in Tshabalala.
