POLICE are investigating a suspected case of ritual murder after the body of a teenager was found with a mutilated face in Ha Selonyane, Qeme.

According to eyewitnesses, the body was first discovered by two men who called villagers to the scene at around 4pm on Tuesday.

“The body was discovered by two men from one of the farms in Ha Selonyane, and we ran to the scene where we found the corpse of a tall and dark girl,” the witness, who requested anonymity, said.

“The girl’s eyes were pulled out of their sockets while the mouth was sliced off. She also had noticeable stab wounds on her chest.

“I think she was below 19 years of age, and it looked like the body was only at the scene dumped there as there were no signs of a struggle at the place the body was recovered.”

Police spokesperson, Senior Inspector Clifford Molefe, said the identity of the victim was as yet unknown, and appealed to the members of the public with missing female relatives to identify the body at Mazenod Police Station.

“We have opened a ritual murder case after discovering the body of a girl probably aged between 16 and 17 years,” he said.

“Some of the deceased’s body parts are missing, hence our conclusion that it is a suspected ritual murder. We don’t know the identity of the deceased, and appealing to families or anyone who knows a missing girl aged between 16-17 to visit Mazenod Police Station and identify the body.”
