Lesotho Times Hardly five months after allegedly shooting and critically injuring his wife at her workplace, Lesotho Police Staff Association (LEPOSA) president, Inspector Molibeli Damane, finds himself in trouble again — this time for the suspected shooting of his estranged wife’s lover.

Inspector Damane was released on bail after allegedly shooting his wife in her office in Maseru in October last year. He was ordered not to interfere with his wife as one of the conditions of the bail. The wife was now living in a rented apartment in Ha Mabote.

However, on Monday, Inspector Damane is said to have visited his wife at her apartment where he allegedly shot her boyfriend, who is a member of the Lesotho Defence Force.

Inspector Damane was arrested the same day and taken into police custody. He was later released and directed to report to the police the next morning while a directive was being sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

On Tuesday afternoon, Inspector Damane was remanded in custody, and is due in court on 7 April.

Police spokesperson Clifford Molefe said yesterday: “Ntate Damane was remanded in custody following a directive from the DPP yesterday and is due in court on 7 April.”

According to the directive, Inspector Damane has a case to answer, and should be charged with contravening provisions of Section 22 (1) of the Penal Code Act No 6 of 2010 and remanded before the Maseru Subordinate Court on a charge of attempted murder.

The directive also advises that should Inspector Damane apply for bail, it be denied.

“The prosecution should, in the meantime, oppose bail until all danger to the life of the person injured is at an end.”

Inspector was elected president of LEPOSA in April last year.
