Schools bas­ket­ball show­down

THE le­sotho Bas­ket­ball as­so­ci­a­tion (lba) is set to host a high school bas­ket­ball tour­na­ment in Maseru this week­end.

the two-day Sprite all Schools Bas­ket­ball Com­pe­ti­tion be­gins on Satur­day at lehakoe Club, Methodist High School and Mach­abeng Col­lege.

Ac­cord­ing to LBA Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer, Ratšolo Molupe, 32 schools are ex­pected to send teams to the tour­na­ment. De­fend­ing cham­pi­ons, Methodist High, are also part of the tour­na­ment, he added.

“We are an­tic­i­pat­ing two days of good bas­ket­ball and fierce com­pe­ti­tion from the 32 schools hop­ing to be crowned cham­pi­ons come Sun­day,” Molupe said.

Molupe also said high school bas­ket­ball had played a huge role in nur­tur­ing young tal­ent for the se­nior league.

“this has been a good plat­form for young play­ers to hone their skills in a com­pet­i­tive league,” said Molupe.

“there has been a good re­la­tion­ship be­tween dif­fer­ent cat­e­gories of bas­ket­ball in this coun­try be­cause of this league which is why the tran­si­tion has not been that dif­fi­cult for the play­ers.”

ac­cord­ing to Molupe, BBH and LSR would also face-off this week­end in the de­cid­ing match of the se­nior men’s league.

“Just like the schools com­pe­ti­tion, we ex­pect a thrilling game be­tween these two teams,” said added Molupe.

“this has been a very good year for bas­ket­ball and com­pe­ti­tion among the teams con­tin­ues to im­prove.

“i also be­lieve col­lab­o­rat­ing with Fiba (Fed­er­a­tion of in­ter­na­tional Bas­ket­ball as­so­ci­a­tions) has also played an important role in the growth of the sport in le­sotho as we man­aged to hold work­shops and trained our coaches through this en­gage­ment.”
