Trio in Golden Boot race
LONDON — With the Premier League title already decided, there is one piece of silverware three individuals still have their sights on.
Harry Kane (Spurs), Jamie Vardy (Leicester) and Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) are all looking to land the Golden Boot award on the last day of season.
Vardy and Aguero are breathing down Kane’s neck for the award.
The Tottenham Hotspur forward has netted 25 goals so far this season with the latter duo on 24 goals apiece.
Kane has been White Hart Lane’s standout player this campaign as they pushed ‘The Foxes’ to the wire for the Premier League title.
Meanwhile, Vardy returned to Leicester’s starting XI against Everton the past weekend after serving a two-match ban and did so in emphatic fashion with a brace. The striker could have been on 25 goals, but missed a penalty in City’s 3-1 victory.
For Aguero, the former Atletico Madrid forward has played fewer league games than Vardy and Kane, but sees his name yet again among the top goal scorers this season.
The Argentine has featured 28 times for the Citizens while Kane has made 37 appearances. Vardy has been selected 35 times by Claudio Ranieri.
On Sunday, May 15 — with all the games starting off at the same time - City will travel to the Liberty Stadium to take on Swansea City while Tottenham Hotspur face Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Ranieri returns to his old employees at Stamford Bridge, where he spent three underwhelming seasons as Chelsea manager.
With the Premier League title in the bag, the 64-year-old will be hoping Vardy has his shooting boots on as he looks to cap off the year with his 100th Premier League victory at a club where he was under appreciated during his tenure.
