Motsamai speaks on premiership awards
The 2015/16 Vodacom Premier League awards ceremony would only be held after the Cosafa tournament set for 11-25 June in Namibia.
According to the league’s general manager, Baitsi Motsamai, the decision was made to allow the players to concentrate on the regional tournament. Lesotho have bene drawn in Group B alongside Angola, Malawi and Mauritius in the annual tournament organized by the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa).
“We have not set a date for the awards as most of the players nominated for the awards will be busy with the national team, Likuena,” Motsamai said.
“It is now most likely that we will stage the event after the Cosafa tournament to allow Likuena players to focus on the job at hand.”
Motsamai also said the judges’ panel for the awards is headed by Lesotho Football Association technical director, Lehlohonolo Thotanyana.
Motsamai further said the league management would soon reveal the players nominated for different categories which include player of the season, players’ player of the season, goalkeeper of the season, coach of the season, young player of the season, as well as referee and assistant referee of the season.
The top goal-scorer award goes to Matlama’s Motebang Sera, who found the net 14 times.
The likes of Lioli midfielder Jerry Kamela, Sundawana’s Raboana Koloti and Jane Thabantšo of Matlama, are strong contenders for the player of the season award.
Bantu’s Litšepe Marabe swept the board last year as he walked away with the player of the season, players’ player of the season and top goal-scorer awards. Bantu had finished the season as runners-up to league winners Lioli.
each of the individual awards came with a M2000 cheque last season although this amount could be increased this time around.
