Busi­ness­woman robbed

Po­lice are hunt­ing five men who were part of a six-mem­ber gang that robbed a Chi­nese busi­ness­woman in Mokhot­long last Satur­day.

The gang al­legedly went to the woman’s home and de­manded to see her work per­mit, pre­tend­ing to be gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials who wanted to es­tab­lish if she was in the coun­try legally.

The woman is said to have re­fused to open the door for them but the men al­legedly pro­ceeded to dis­arm a guard se­cur­ing her nearby shop, be­fore tak­ing M25 000, two cell­phones and a bank card from the su­per­mar­ket. The rob­bers also took the guard’s firearm.

How­ever, the po­lice were alerted of the on­go­ing rob­bery and when they came, the sus­pects fled from the scene.

But one of the men, Moorosi Mot­samai (28), was caught and ap­peared be­fore the Mokhot­long Mag­is­trate’s Court on Mon­day, ac­cord­ing to deputy po­lice spokesper­son ler­ato Mot­seki.

“It is al­leged that the six men ar­rived at the Chi­nese busi­ness­woman’s home and de­manded to see her work per­mit. Af­ter she re­fused to open the door for them, the six men al­legedly force­fully took a gun from her se­cu­rity guard, and went on to steal M25 000 in cash, two cell­phones and a bankcard from the shop, as well as the guard’s 7.65 mm firearm. one of them who was driv­ing the getaway car, Moorosi Mot­samai, was ar­rested and has since been re­manded in cus­tody,” she said.

Mot­samai’s al­leged ac­com­plices are still on the run and the po­lice are af­ter them, Se­nior In­spec­tor Mot­seki said.
