Silver lining to Mega Hertz track leak

Lesotho Times - - Entertainment - Mohalenyane Phakela

RAPPER Mega Hertz says the leaking of his latest single was a blessing in disguise as the song ended up trending on social media before its official release. In the song titled, Lineo Mathaba, Mega Hertz waxes lyrical about a lady with impeccable beauty saying in Sesotho “she is so fine, she bathes in milk”. The 20-year-old rapper, who was born Thaabe Letsie, this week told the Weekender the song was referred to a “close” friend and would feature in his upcoming mixtape, One Day I’ll Make You Proud. “Lineo Mathaba is the first single in an upcoming mixtape which will drop sometime in August. It was inspired by a special lady whose relationship with me can only be described as com- plicated,” he said.

“I sent the lady a snippet of the single for her approval before I could release it. I guess she found it too good to wait for the official release and started sharing it.

“I was surprised to see the positive reviews it was getting on Facebook, yet it was only a minute-long snippet that had not been mastered.”

Mega Hertz said the leak had inadvertently marketed the song, adding that he appreciated the positive responses.

“There is no such thing as bad publicity, so I am not angry the track was leaked since it generated positive reviews,” he said.

“This is not the first time that I have experienced that kind of hype since it also happened with Mookho which was leaked in 2014. So, I must be doing a good job.”

The up-and-coming rapper said he forayed into the industry in 2012 while still a student at the National University of Lesotho International School. Mega Hertz got his breakthrough in 2014 after releasing Mookho and House Party which saw him getting booked for various local events.

His debut album, Khaya To Jozi, was released last December amid positive reviews. It boasts such tracks as Kopa O Ntag, Side Chick, Aus Way and No Way among the 14 tracks.

Mega Hertz has already set his sights on conquering South Africa.

“I am currently working on penetrating the South African market by networking with promoters in the country. I have already submitted my music at Johannesburg-based 5FM radio station and was humbled by the 15 minutes airplay they afforded me two months ago,” he said.
