Man kills wife over food por­tions

A 31-yearold Sekhut­long, Ke­tane man is in cus­tody await­ing trial for al­legedly mur­der­ing his 25-year old wife af­ter a dis­pute over food por­tions.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice deputy spokesper­son, Se­nior In­spec­tor Lerato Mot­seki, the in­ci­dent oc­curred on 7 Septem­ber 2016 around mid­night.

She said the sus­pect al­legedly drew a knife and fa­tally stabbed his wife who was the sole bread­win­ner in the fam­ily.

Se­nior In­spec­tor Mot­seki said the cou­ple had ear­lier that day fought over food por­tions, with the sus­pect al­legedly ac­cus­ing his wife of serv­ing more food to their chil­dren than him.

The sus­pect also al­legedly ac­cused the de­ceased of en­gag­ing in an ex­tra-mar­i­tal af­fair. She said the wife had pre­vi­ously reported the mat­ter to the area chief and that the sus­pect had been con­tin­u­ally hurl­ing in­sults at her.
