All set for Mohokare Golf Classic
THE flagship golf tournament takes place on the 21st and 22nd of October at Maseru Golf Club and the Ladybrand Golf Course. There will be a record field of more than 160 participants from Lesotho, South Africa and Botswana at the two-day tournament.
The Nedbank Mohokare Golf Classic started in 2003 as a friendship and networking opportunity among Basotho in Lesotho, South Africa and Botswana.
They decided to rotate the hosting of the event among the 3 countries on an annual basis.
“The Mohokare Golf Classic has grown in leaps and bounces since it began”, stated the event’s organising chair Mr Mpeaki Sekhibane.
“We are very excited by this year’s turn-out as we have the largest field of golfers since inauguration. We are also proud to have the largest field of women golfers (30).
“Notwithstanding the prevailing drought, we believe the greenkeepers have prepared courses that would be delightful to play on.”
Mr. Mpeaki said that there were several prizes on offer for winners, the highlight being M100 000 for a “hole in one” on the one of the short par 3s’.
“We are putting finishing touches to what promises to be a memorable Nedbank Mohokare Golf Classic 2016,”he added.
Nedbank Lesotho Marketing Officer, Mr. Nthethe Sekoli said their involvement with Mohokare Golf Classic dated back to 2005 and they were “proud to continue our association as part of our wider Corporate Social Investment initiatives”.
“We believe this is a good platform to network, build and grow friendships.
“We look forward to build on last year’s success and look forward to an even bigger tournament this year,” he said.
His Majesty King Letsie III and senior government officials are all expected to grace the prize giving ceremony at Avani Lesotho Hotel on the evening of the 22nd October.
