Famo musician gunned down
POLICE have launched investigations into the fatal shooting of 37-year old famo musician Taemane Clement Moeko from Pulane in Teyateyaneng.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Clifford Molefe told the Lesotho Times a man was shot at Maputsoe bus stop on Sunday evening around 8.30 pm.
The man was later identified as Mr Moeko, popularly known as “Diaz” or ‘Mohale oa Lioling’ who was renowned for songs such as Hela Koro and Taemane oa seboholi.
Mr Moeko’s friend and fellow artist Masia Ramakhula said the shooting had left them puzzled as the deceased was a peaceful man who had no known enemies.
“We are still coming to grips with this tragedy because we don’t have suspects as we search for answers to our many questions.”
“I cannot say for sure what really happened but we were told that he had just left his place in Teyateyaneng for Maputsoe.
“His car broke down and he went to get a mechanic to fix the problem and buy electricity when suddenly gun shots were heard from the direction that he had taken. He was found dead,” Mr Ramakhula said, adding he is survived by his wife and two sons aged 6 and 10.
Superintendent Molefe said they were appealing to members of the public to come for- ward with “information that could lead to the arrest of those involved.”
He said there were many peaceful ways to resolve misunderstandings instead of violence and killings.
“People are encouraged to seek justice before the courts of law if other amicable means cannot be followed,” Supt Molefe said.
