Mehalalitoe face Swaziland
THE Lesotho women’s national soccer team, including South African side Bloemfontein Celtic captain Boitumelo Rabele, are scheduled to depart today for Swaziland for two friendly matches against their counterparts on Saturday and Sunday.
Coach Monaheng Montšo said the games would assist the development of his side.
“The matches are very important to the team because the girls will get a chance to compete and gain international exposure,” Montšo said.
“The bonus for the team and the technical team is that LEFA (Lesotho Football Association) has promised to enroll the team in continental qualifiers as well as the World Cup qualifying games if we do well in these friendly matches. It is a good reason for us to give our best as the girls would love to play in the important qualifiers.
“The good thing is that we now have a league for the women teams and they are always in action unlike in the past where the players would be very rusty, thus making it difficult for the national team coaches,” he said.
He said the twenty member team started preparations last week but only had a full camp on Monday.
“We selected the best players from our Women’s Super league and we believe they will do the country proud and prove that they are ready for bigger competitions,” he said.
