ELEVEN local acts have been nominated for the 4th annual Golden Bean Music Awards which will be held on 26 November at the Sand Du Plessis Theatre in Bloemfontein, South Africa. They were nominated in three out of 25 categories and the top five in each category will be announced today. Voting will close on 24 November. The awards are aimed at celebrating musicians born in the Free State province of South Africa irrespective of their present location and were so-named because of the geographical shape of the Free State which resembles a bean.

Harris T was nominated in the Best Promoter Category while J Cob was nominated in the Best Hip Hop MC category. Sir Schaba, Agent K, Monyase DJ, Tshepzadj, DJ Thizozo, Saxzo, Boxfr3sh, Smooth and Ms Jijjy were all nominated in the Best International Act Award which is reserved for Lesotho acts.

To vote for any of the artistes, one has to SMS the word ‘ Bean’ together with the category and name of the artiste to the South African SMS number 31051.

Sir Schaba this week told the Weekender that the nomination was testimony of the impact he had made on the South African market.

“This is the first award I have been nominated for as far as the South African music scene is concerned and I am greatly humbled for it shows I have made an impact beyond the Lesotho borders,” Sir Schaba said.

“I lived in Bloemfontein from 1995 till 2011 and during that period I developed my disc spinning career and I still play there sometimes.”

Sir Schaba will also receive an honorary award this weekend at the Fashion Meets Music Lesotho event for his contribution to the local music scene. He won the Best Newcomer and Best Compilation awards at the 2014 Ultimate Music Awards.
