Fans in for volleyball treat
FANS are in for a treat when the Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) holds a two-day tournament from 28-29 March at the National University of Lesotho (NUL). Eight male and eight female teams would take part in the tournament, with the finals scheduled for the last day of the competition.
LVA spokesperson, Letsatsi Ntsibolane, on Thursday told the Sunday Express preparations for the event had gone smoothly, and that he expected fierce competition as the event would also be used to pick a national team for the All-Africa Games scheduled for 4-19 September in Congo-Brazzaville.
“The male teams set to be part of the tournament are defending champions Redskins, Mahlaseli, LDF Vi, LMPS, LCS, Green Spikes and debutants Butha-Buthe and Mazenod.
“in the female category, we will have LDF Vi, LMPS, Green Spikes, Redskins, Mahlaseli, Lesotho College of Education and rookies Mohale’s hoek and Triple Threat.
“Everything is in place for the tournament; we were just waiting for confirmation of the venue, because the tournament was supposed to have been played in ButhaButhe. however, we had to move it to NUL because the Butha-Buthe courts are still under construction.
“There are going to be two pools of four teams each, with the top two meeting in the semis, and the semifinal winners facing off in the final.
“We expect this to be a very tough tournament because this is where we will be selecting the two national teams that are going to represent Lesotho at the All-Africa Games in September,” Ntsibolane said.
Meanwhile, Ntsibolane said the association held a workshop to recruit new officials into the sport.
The seminar, which attracted 23 candidates, started on Wednesday and ends today at Emmanuel hostel in Maseru.
