Sport Sunday Giants seal league win with Spears rout
GIANTS demolished NUL Spears 41-0 to clinch the Lesotho Rugby League title at LCS Ground yesterday. Giants treasurer Realeboha Segoete said the league win has boosted the team as they prepare for the Eastern Free State League starting next month.
He said it was a tough match but they managed to come on top.
“It was not an a easy match at all, but at the same time, it was a great challenge for us and will be a great boost for us going into the Griffons League that is resuming next month in the Eastern Free State,” Segoete said.
He added that they are aiming to, at least, reach the leagues’ play offs after a poor showing last season.
“Last season we did not play well because the national team matches interrupted our programme as we had many players in the team,” said Segoete.
On his part, Spears flank Letlatsa Letompa, said his side lacked composure during the match.
“It was a tough match for us as we lacked composure, I think we played more individually than as a team,” Letompa said.
He, however, said it was a learning curve for them adding that they will return much stronger next season.
Meanwhile, Federation of Lesotho Rugby Secretary General Litšitso Motšeremeli said he was impressed with the just-ended league which had seen an improvement in the number of supporters.
“It was a great tourney indeed which shows that we are going somewhere with rugby since there was a lot of improvement from the teams,” Motšeremeli said.
He added that the improved perfomances would increase the competition in the national team.
In the losers final, Maseru Warriors registered a 32-10 win against Mabote Beavers.
