Li­oli thrash 10-men LDF

AN own goal from Tu­mane Letha Lethakha and a cracker from Ju­nior Maba saw Li­oli romp t to a 2-0 win against a 10-men LDF yes­ter­day in a Vo­da­com Pre­mier League match play played at Ha-Ratjo­mose ground in M Maseru.

Yes­ter­day Yes­ter­day’s win buoyed Li­oli’s chances of win­ning the league ti­tle with an eight point gap be­tween Tse Nala and the clos­est fol­lower Bantu with five ma matches left be­fore the end of the sea­son. How­ever,Ho Bantu can

re­duce the lead to five points if they man­age to pre­vail against rel­e­ga­tion­threat­ened Qoal­ing High­landers at LCS Ground this af­ter­noon.

The match started on a lan­guid pace with both sides ex­er­cis­ing cau­tion.

How­ever, Li­oli found their opener 15 min­utes into the match af­ter LDF goal­keeper Rele­bo­hile Qe­joa par­ried Tšoanelo Koe­tle’s set-piece only for his team­mate Lethakha to nudge it into his own net.

The army side’s mis­eries con­tin­ued when skip­per, Tšeliso Phera, saw red card for in­sult­ing the ref­eree in the 25th minute.

A long range shot from Maba in the dy­ing min­utes of the first half all but ended the match as a con­test.

Li­oli con­tin­ued to dom­i­nate on the sec­ond stanza and cre­ated nu­mer­ous chances but poor fin­ish­ing worked against them.

In a post-match in­ter­view, Li­oli coach Mosholu Mokhothu lauded his charges for keep­ing up the mo­men­tum.

“It was not an easy match be­cause LDF were very rough but I am happy my boys sus­tained the pres­sure,” Mokhothu said.

“We still have five matches left so our fo­cus is on them, it’s only af­ter the league has ended that we can re­lax.”

On his part LDF coach Male­fet­sane Pheko ex­pressed dis­ap­pointed with his charges’ per­for­mance.

“We con­ceded easy goals and I am not sat­is­fied with how the team fared. I am also not happy with how the ref­eree of­fi­ci­ated,” Pheko said.

In other league matches played yes­ter­day, Sun­dawana beat Mphat­lalat­sane 1-0 at Butha-Buthe while Linare lost by one goal to nil against LMPS at PTC Ground.
