Lioli thrash 10-men LDF
AN own goal from Tumane Letha Lethakha and a cracker from Junior Maba saw Lioli romp t to a 2-0 win against a 10-men LDF yesterday in a Vodacom Premier League match play played at Ha-Ratjomose ground in M Maseru.
Yesterday Yesterday’s win buoyed Lioli’s chances of winning the league title with an eight point gap between Tse Nala and the closest follower Bantu with five ma matches left before the end of the season. However,Ho Bantu can
reduce the lead to five points if they manage to prevail against relegationthreatened Qoaling Highlanders at LCS Ground this afternoon.
The match started on a languid pace with both sides exercising caution.
However, Lioli found their opener 15 minutes into the match after LDF goalkeeper Relebohile Qejoa parried Tšoanelo Koetle’s set-piece only for his teammate Lethakha to nudge it into his own net.
The army side’s miseries continued when skipper, Tšeliso Phera, saw red card for insulting the referee in the 25th minute.
A long range shot from Maba in the dying minutes of the first half all but ended the match as a contest.
Lioli continued to dominate on the second stanza and created numerous chances but poor finishing worked against them.
In a post-match interview, Lioli coach Mosholu Mokhothu lauded his charges for keeping up the momentum.
“It was not an easy match because LDF were very rough but I am happy my boys sustained the pressure,” Mokhothu said.
“We still have five matches left so our focus is on them, it’s only after the league has ended that we can relax.”
On his part LDF coach Malefetsane Pheko expressed disappointed with his charges’ performance.
“We conceded easy goals and I am not satisfied with how the team fared. I am also not happy with how the referee officiated,” Pheko said.
In other league matches played yesterday, Sundawana beat Mphatlalatsane 1-0 at Butha-Buthe while Linare lost by one goal to nil against LMPS at PTC Ground.
