All set for body building contest
BODY Building Association of Lesotho (BBAL) public relations officer Tšepo Matsoso says all is in place for the prestigious ‘Night of Champions’ competition at Lehakoe Recreational Centre Hall on the 10th of December.
The competition is the first of its kind in Lesotho and it is expected to feature some continental big names for the M10 000 first prize.
Matsoso said the runners up will pocket M5000 while the third and fourth placed would receive M3500 and M1000 in the male and female categories respectively. The prizes will include supplements hampers.
“All the logistics are in place and we are waiting for the athletes to confirm their participation,” Matsoso said, adding South Africa’s under-85 kilogramme champion Bongani Leaka and locals Khauhelo Raphepheng and Masilo Matsoso had already confirmed their participation.
Matsoso said the competition was also aimed at spreading awareness about the sport in the country.
He said while the association has had many athletes competing in high profile international competitions, it had however come to their attention that “many people still do not know about us”.
“This is why we have included some local athletes in this competition because we want to lure many people to attend including those who do not understand our sport,” he said.
He said the fact that they were unknown also made it harder to attract sponsors and this could only change if they started attracting big crowds. He singled out Maluti Mountain Brewery for having “been with us for a while and we thank them”.
Matsoso said he and five other athletes including Solomon Mahone, Teboho Macheke and Raphepheng would participate in the Arnold Classic Competition to be held in Ohio United States of America in March 2017.
He said four of the athletes had received “straight invites” while the association would select the other two “possibly after this competition”.
