THE TRUTH ABOUT MOISTURISERS

CLEO (Malaysia) - - MEET YOUR MATCH -

Janet Pardo, Senior Vice President, Global Product Development for Clinique, sheds light on some questions we have.

WHAT DOES “BALANCE” MEAN IN THE CONTEXT OF GREAT SKIN?

“Physiologically speaking, balance has to do with the proper ratio of oil and water in the skin, so that it’s neither dry and irritated, nor greasy due to overactive oil glands. Clear, hydrated, calm skin that functions unimpeded is skin in balance. That’s healthy skin.”

IS IT TRUE THAT THE CREAMIER THE TEXTURE, THE BETTER IT MOISTURISES?

“False. While it might seem logical that the thicker the cream, the more effective it is, the question is: Effective at what? It is certainly more occlusive, which means it sits on the skin’s surface and may prevent moisture from escaping.”

SHOULD WOMEN USE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MOISTURISERS AT DIFFERENT STAGES OF THEIR LIVES? FOR EXAMPLE, ARE LOTIONS MORE TARGETED FOR TEENS AND CREAMIER FORMULAS TARGETED FOR WOMEN?

“This isn’t necessary true. Skincare technology has made dramatic strides in recent decades so lightweight moisturisers can be packed with powerful ingredients that work elegantly and invisibly, no matter what your age. It really depends on the user’s preference and what end benefit she is looking to achieve.”
