PONY TALES

NOTHING SAYS EASY CHIC QUITE LIKE A LOW-SLUNG PONYTAIL.

Simple yet sophisticated, the ponytail is an ubiquitous part of any runway season. This season, offsetting the extravagance of the apparel on display, the ponytail has three things in common – shine, simplicity and sleekness. Most importantly, this season’s pony ny rides low, hanging off the napes of models’ necks.

PONY STYLE

At Michael Kors and Jil Sander, minimalistnimalist ponytails were given a mirror-like shine. So easy to recreate, Redken creative consultant Guido Palau achieved this at Jil Sander with the use of a thermal spray on the tail, flat-ironing, and finishing off with a glistening mist. At Lanvin, punk met with Parisian chic as low ponytails were given some texture while maintaining brilliance. “It’s a modern style, as if the girls had done it themselves,” says Palau. Good news for us without an expert hairstylist on speed dial! To up the class factor, wrap a small section of hair around the elastic.

PONY FEMME

If you want something less sporty and more girly, look to DSquared2. “From the front, the hair looked masculine, but as the model turned around, a very feminine pony tail was revealed,” says Samm McMcKnight, Pantene Pro-V Global Stylist Ambassador. For a wavy, glossy ponytail, nytail, apply mousse then blow-dry your hair before using a tong to create loosese waves. “This will make it easier to fix into a ponytail, and will leave it with a glamorouslamorous wave, while the heat from the tongs will give your hair plenty of shine.e. If you find tongs hard to use, try using heated ed curlers,” adds McKnight. To achieve the look, there’s plenty of tugging andd blow-drying involved. But the end result should be an haute mane, not hot hair. Give hair special care tto prevent it from becoming lacklustre and brittle. We love Percy & Reed’s Heat Protect Styling Mist that coatsats locks with a conditioning gloss to keep hair cool. A thermal brush like the one from Ecofrens has a vented ceramic barrel for more efficient heat styling, meaning less heat exposure.
