THE BRAIDY BUNCH

NEAT PLAITS ARE SO PASSÉ. HERE ARE DIFFERENT WAYS YOU CAN WORK THE BRAID. D.

No longer the schoolgirl hairdo, the braid has grown up – with plenty of personality too. Going from punk to boho to sophisticated, the braids spotted on the Autumn/Winter runways are proof that it is possible to take a classic coif f and make it your own. For the edgy girl, Sam McKnight, global stylist ambassador at Pantene Pro-V, created an “outward” or Dutch braid coupled with fauxhawks at Fendi. “What you’re aiming for is something that looks a bit tough; feminine but with a masculine edge, with plenty of texture,” says McKnight. Instead of folding the hair sections in to create the braid, get them to protrude outwards by twisting outwardly, crossing under instead of over. Heaps of hair gloss give it a dramatic effect.

BOHO PLAITS

Perfect for turning bed head into Bohemian chic, the ethereal braids at Rodarte aren’t difficult to recreate. There are no rules to this look, except to have fun and play with it! Start by making two loose braids, one on each side of your head. As they meet in the middle, twist them into a messy chignon and pin in place, or merge them into one braid. So remember the messier the look the better. Thsi look is best achieved with day-old hair.

TWISTED SIDE

At Valentino, Redken creative consultant Guido Palau created a beautiful side braid, reminiscent of yesteryear’s screen sirens. Though h demure, the overall look is still seductive. First, create a centre part and comb down to one side, tucking behind your ear. Then, braid loosely all the way to the bottom, smoothing down flyaways with hair r pomade as you work along. The end result? A classic braid made sexy with a strip of leather. A lacey headband works too.

Leaving hair silky, this leave-in treatment restores hydration to dry locks while giving you shine and

control. Give loose tresses a sexy bedhead look with this emollient pomade made for definition, movement and weightlessness.

This serum enhances shine while protecting your mane with its UV filters and antioxidant calendula. Use this directly before blow-drying to keep flyaways at bay and to leave behind a healthy and super-shiny sheen.
