Q Is there such a thing as using too much SPF? It’s in all my creams, serums and sunscreen that I use on a daily basis. A According to dermatologist Dr. Jason Yip from The DRx Clinic, there is no real harm in too much SPF but SPF30 already gives you 97 per cent UVB protection. The best protection is to apply a thicker layer of a proper physical sunblock, and to reapply often, especially when in the sun or after sweating.

Q I have a massive problem with acne. What ingredients should I look for when it comes to cleansers and scrubs? A Look out for products that have tea tree oil extract. It has powerful antibacterial properties and can destroy the bacteria related to the production of acne. Chemical solutions like benzoyl peroxide may act faster but with tea tree oil extract, you’ll suffer from fewer side effects. It also has a cooling effect on the skin that can be extremely calming, especially if you’re being attacked by red, angry acne!

Q What is double cleansing and how important is it in a skincare routine? A Double cleansing is the art of using two beauty products on your face to remove dirt, pollution, make-up, oil and sweat. It preps the skin for lotions and serums, and helps them soak into the skin quickly and more effectively. This technique originated from Japan, and bases itself on a simple chemistry lesson – oil and water do not mix. Using a cleansing oil will remove oil, and a foaming cleanser will remove dead skin and sweat.
