"I like to test my limits. I never want to be stuck in the same routine.”
The gods of television drama must be looking down and smirking now that Gossip Girl’s Queen B, the ultimate manipulator and all-round mean girl, is reportedly set to marry geeky, left-of-centre Seth Cohen from The O.C. In what parallel universe could producers have possibly imagined that socialite Blair Waldorf would end up with the comic book-obsessed Seth? But when reports emerged recently that Leighton and her boyfriend, Adam Brody, had got engaged, one thing became clear: Those producers missed a great crossover opportunity!
Leighton always knew she wanted to act. “I watched a lot of TV, and it clicked one day that these people were acting,” she says. “It sounded like the most fun thing ever.” After starting out with local gigs, she was encouraged to move to New York to pursue acting professionally. Her first TV role was on Law & Order, followed by minor parts on shows like 24, House and Entourage. In 2007, she became Gossip Girl’s Blair.
But don’t mistake her for her old Upper East Side alter ego. “I never wear make-up when I’m not at work,” she says. “It can make you forget what you look like, and I’ve grown to really love the way I look without it.”
After six successful seasons, it was always going to be tough to shed her Gossip Girl skin, but Leighton already has a few projects on the go for 2014. She’s an ambassador for skincare brand Biotherm, and we’ll soon see her on the big screen alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Dax Shepard in The Judge. And, as well as their pending nuptials, Leighton and Adam have teamed up in the movie Life Partners, also due out this year. It’s the pair’s second film together – the first was The Oranges in 2011, where they met.
We’re thrilled that two of our faves are set for their happy-ever-after. If nothing else, it proves giving the nerdy guy a chance can pay off!
