Guess dresses for success as it returns to its roots in making jeans the forefront of its collections.
Sexy, butt-flattering jeans that is timeless in design and long lasting in quality is every woman’s dream. Guess has been building that dream since 1981 when Marciano brothers, Paul and Maurice left the South of France for America and transformed jeans from being a workwear staple into a fashion statement. One of their initial designs was a stonewashed, slim-fitting jean, the 3-zip Marilyn. Bloomingdale’s was the first department store to welcome the brand by ordering two dozen pairs of jeans – they disappeared from the shelves in just hours. This was the beginning of a long success story and eventually, the brand diversified and started its accessories line.
Back To Basics
After more than a decade of successfully expanding its accessories line, Paul Marciano decided that it’s high time Guess refocus on what contributed to its longevity – denim. “Accessories became so big since 2000 that the accessories became the focus of the company for a while and we forgot a little bit to take care of the denim,” Marciano said in an interview for Los Angeles Times. Denim is our world. Denim is global. Our roots are denim,” he said. “It’s not watches, it’s not handbags, it’s not shoes.”
“The Spring/Summer 2014 collection will see Guess embracing the denim movement again,” says chief design officer Sharleen Ernster. “It’s inspired by iconic Guess pieces, specifically denim, which is very much a Guess heritage. From tops to dresses, these are perfect everyday wear that you can dress up or down.”
