Water is a basic need that we often take for granted – everyone only seems to realise how precious it is when there are water shortages. Imagine having a water shortage every day for the foreseeable future, and you’ll see the lives of the people living in remote areas all around the world. Wanting to give back and help, Aveda has partnered with Global Greengrants Fund, which helps solve environmental problems. Since 2007, the partnership has helped protect over 700 lakes and rivers, and made it possible for over 20,000 women to have access to clean water. Prior to Aveda’s assistance, women in small villages would often have to trek through several hundred metres of terrain in the blazing hot sun to fetch water which often turned out to be contaminated. The good news? You can now help out, too. Aveda has introduced limited edition Light the Way Candles, the profit from which will go wholly to the Global Greengrants Fund. The candle is designed from recycled products, and is set to change more than just a scent or mood. RM45 might not seem much but this sum provides a minimum of six months’ worth of clean drinking water to a family of six. Sales from the candles will raise over US$1.6 million (RM5.2 million) for clean water projects all over the planet.
