Can We Help Them?
“You can’t counsel your own friend or family because you get emotionally involved. It takes a lot of time and understanding but it all boils down to whether they are courageous enough to admit it. If somebody is not admitting that they’re lying that just means they’re lying to themselves,” Dr Jegathesan clarified. “If approached, they will provide many excuses to not admit. It takes time for them to be ready but when they are, refer them to professional counsellors. The trick though is getting them to be ready is something you can’t force upon them. You’re helping someone who isn’t aware that they’ve got a problem. Patience is the only form of help
you can give them for the time being.”
