Lip Service

CLEO (Malaysia) - - MATRIX SPECIAL -

CLEO speaks to Violette, Dior international make-up designer and make-up artist to the stars, about what makes the Dior Addict Lip Fluid special.

How much has lipstick or lip colours evolved throughout the years?

Back in the Renaissance period, lip colour was the thing you would use to refresh your look. These days, lipstick isn’t just make-up anymore; it’s very much a fashion piece, statement, or accessory.

What would be your signature look?

I’m quite known for texture because I am from an art school. My signature look would be how I create complexions to mimic that of paintings from the Italian Renaissance period. It’s an obsession of mine – skin that is transparent, glowing, and lit from within – that, teamed with lips that pop with colour.

Name one make-up product you can’t live without.

Lipstick. I can use this one single product on my eyes, cheeks, and lips. Nude or coloured, either will look great. The Dior Addict lipstick works great in this case. It adds a fresh glow to your complexion. If I was deserted on an island and I can only bring one thing, it’ll be lipstick. If I could bring another product, it would be a mascara. You can use the black cream and apply it close to the roots for a smoky and smudgy line. You can also wipe off excess and use the brush over your brows to set it in place.

How do you want women to react to the product?

I want women to have fun with this product. And there are no rules when it comes to Dior Addict Fluid Stick. It’s a product that urges you to try just about every colour there is. The other thing that’s great about the packaging is that it allows you to look at how the colour will look on your lips without having to put it on. Simply hold the coloured bit horizontally in front of your face and against your lips.

Is matching lipstick colour to your clothes passé?

Not at all. What I would suggest you do first though would be to pick a colour that suits your mood and then pair it with a piece of clothing. For example today, I matched my lipstick to my shoes.

How can someone with really dry lips wear colour effectively?

If you have super dry lips but wish to wear this beautiful nude lip colour, one way to tackle dryness would be to massage the lips with balm and then gently scrub the scruff away with a tissue. Repeat with the massage step with balm and then apply the Dior Addict Fluid Stick on top. The water based lip colour will help keep dryness at bay.

It’s a lipstick, a gloss, a marker,

and pure pigment in one.

How would you wear purple lipstick?

Keep purple sophisticated, chic, and cool with curled lashes, nude complexion, and big eyebrows. It’s always better to team strong colours with a clean complexion using just Dior Skinflash and a hint of blush.
