Size Does Matter
A little bit of product goes a long way for your skin and your pocket.

It has probably happened to you before – you’ve splurged on a really pricey tub of moisturiser, but you realise that you’re down to a quarter of the jar after only a month. Your friend, on the other hand, has been using the same tub for more than six months. Knowing how much product to use can be confusing, but sticking to the right dosage is very important. The amount used can affect the outcome for which it is intended. Using too much or even too little could have less than the desired effect on your face or body. According to Dr Jason Yip, a dermatologist at the DrX Clinic, over-using and under-using not only leads to product wastage, but may potentially disrupt the physiology of the skin. This means that you could end up with clogged pores, slower exfoliation of the skin, or even a greasier complexion. “A worst case scenario would be when over-using could lead to nasty side effects such as irritation, dryness, redness, or discomfort,” he says. Underusing, on the other hand, will have slower or no effect after application since the product applied wouldn’t be enough to get a response from your skin. When it comes to your skincare, the belief is that less is better. Modern products are optimised in terms of delivery, absorption, and effectiveness to the skin. The advancement of research in the industry means that some products nowadays are able to be maintain their efficacy even with minimal application. However, Dr Jason cautions of the dangers of this, as there is a serious chance of extreme underusage, to the point that the products have absolutely no effect on the skin.
