Career Star

This job will have you green with envy!

CLEO (Malaysia) - - NEWS -

Organising events for the oil & gas industry, this globetrotter’s job is one you’d envy!

What is your job all about?

My job covers everything from securing volunteers, speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors, to working with committees, convention centres, hotels, and executives from major oil and gas companies. Most recently, I led a team in organising and delivering the Offshore Technology Conference Asia in KL, which was attended by over 25,000 industry professionals.

So you travel quite a bit. Where have you been to for work so far?

I’ve travelled to China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Italy, Denmark, U.A.E, and Qatar. I often travel to America as that’s where the Society of Petroleum Engineers is based.

What’s the best part about your job?

Though I’m not a petroleum engineer or scientist – and this may sound cheesy – it’s really interesting and fulfilling to work with and learn from experts in the energy industry who are helping to make sure the lighlights in our homes turn on eveevery day.

WWho’s your role model?

My mother. She’s very driven, hahas a strong work ethic and hahas always taught me to set mmy expectations high.

What’s the funniest work experience you’ve had?

It had to be sharing an elevator with Formula1 driver Lewis Hamilton. I was going back to the hotel from a nearby convention centre after an event and definitely wasn’t looking my finest. I was a bit star struck and mentally debating whether it would be cool to ask for a selfie ... and I totally forgot to press any buttons. He realised this and pressed the button to his floor to get the elevator moving. I just did my best to blend in with the wall.

If you could trade jobs, what would you choose?

I would choose to be a TV presenter. I studied journalism at university. I’ve emceed events and am not afraid of speaking to a large audience. Bringing people the news seems like quite a fun job and I think I’d be pretty decent at it.
